It won’t be long until photo radars are back in Toronto and the City is poised to launch the project in 2019. More than 700 locations have been designated for installation of the ASE (Automatic Speed Enforcement) system.
Fines will range from $21 for going 1 km/hr over the speed limit to $1,105+ for 50 km/h zones. Installations will mostly take place in community safety zones. City of Toronto spokesman Eric Holmes said the Council authorized the creation of 754 new Community Safety Zones last year around elementary school.
On the other hand, a Quebec court has decision this week in which a justice ordered a photo radar ticket thrown out, call into question the future use of Photo Radar in Quebec. Are they all being moved to Toronto, and how will courts challenge the evidence? We shall see.
